Empty nest syndrome is something that is all too common among parents watching their kids leave home either because they're going away to an English language school or they've found a place of their own. They even made a TV show about it. A lot of parents have some pretty mixed emotions when it comes to the impeding empty nest.
On the one hand it'll be sad to come home to a less crowded piece of Halton Hills real estate property but on the other hand, they have the freedom to renovate their home to their delight. On the complete opposite spectrum of emotions are the young adults moving out and into a place of their own. They have some feelings of trepidation and are worried whether or not they'll make it on their own away from the safety net their parents and the Toronto townhome they grew up in afforded them.
However, those worries are usually alleviated with feelings of joy and anticipation because they are going to be moving in their very own Mississauga townhouses. They'll be moving into a place where they get to make the rules and live by them. No more curfew, no more being told to turn the music down loud, no more having to mow the lawn whenever mom or dad asks, etc. It's their house and they get to do whatever they want.
They know it'll be tough but well worth it in the end. They're on the road to becoming adults. Moving out for the first time is that first step to true adulthood and independence. It's when parents finally start to see their kids as adults and not children any more. Young adults moving out know this and feel like it's about time they're no longer seen as little kids in the eyes of their parents.
It's a freedom that brings with it a lot of responsibility. Those young adults no longer have their parents to buy them groceries on a regular basis, do their laundry, provide them with luxuries such as high speed internet or cable TV. Those are things they have to provide and take care of on their own in their new Oshawa homes. It's a small price to pay to be living on their own. They'd have to do at some point anyway so the sooner the better. |
